Rotterdam Mall is Schenectady’s premier shopping center. It is located in the town of Rotterdam and can be accessible via the town of Rotterdam or 890. Rotterdam Square Mall is owned and managed by The Macerich Company (which also owns Wilton Mall), the mall has over 80 stores, a 450-seat food court as well as restaurants and a 6 screen Sony-Loews Cineplex. Up until January 2007, rotterdam Square Mall had a beautiful carousel located in the food court that was eventually sold and torn down. But it was truly a beautiful facet. Rotterdam Square Mall’s neearby to the Great Flats Nature Trail and Preserve.
The mall is also unique for the fact that it is one of the only malls that actualyl have a gravesite located (and fenced) near one of the malls entrances. The mall is situated on a site once owned by the Vedder Family. The Vedder Family are the ones buried in the graveyard and has plots dating back centuries.
At the time of construction, the area around the mall was a nature preserve, and environmental groups were concerned that the building of the mall would endanger wildlife and pollute the wet lands on the opposite side of Route 337, now the
If you want a low-key shopping expereince without the crowds of Colonie Center or Crossgates Mall, this is your best bet. The mall has seen a decline in patrons in recent years and is currently attempting a comeback to it’s early days of popularity.
This is perfect for an intimate outing or if you are simply tired of busy malls. It also is a great place to catch a good seat at the movies. They don’t tnd to see any sold out audiences for the shows!
