Crossgates Mall (or Xgates to locals) is located in Guilderland and is easily accessible from Western & Washington as well as I 90. Crossgates originally opened on March 4th 1984. It went under a major expansion that more than doubkled the mall’s size in October 1994. This helped brand the mall as THE shopping center of the Capital District. Crossgates Mall has a giant parking lot, 250 shops and restaurants, as well as an 18-screen Regal Cinema theater. Crossgates Mall is the largest shopping mall in the 518 and the 3rd largest in the state of New York.
Crossgates Mall is strategically located at the junction of I-87 and I-90, the busiest section of the New York State Thruway. Being almost perfectly located the mall is visited by shoppers from Central New York, the North Country, Western Massachusetts and throughout the Hudson Valley region.
One of the great facets of the mall itself is it’s new walking program. The mall offers a unique excersize program on a measured course before stores open (7 am – 10:00 am Monday through Saturday; 7 am – 11 am Sunday).

“Parental Escort Policy
Crossgates Mall has implemented a Parental Escort Policy on Fridays and Saturdays between the hours of 4pm and closing. Anyone under the age of 18 visiting Crossgates Mall must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 years of age or older. One parent or guardian (21 years of age or older) is permitted to supervise up to five teens. Teens must remain within the company of their parent or guardian. Acceptable proof of age must inlcude a photo and date of birth and may include a driver’s license, state/provincial non-driver ID, military ID, passport or visa. This policy does not apply to the cinemas or stores with exterior entrances. Cinema patrons under the age of 18 are asked to use the Macy’s/ Houlihan’s entrance, when the policy is in effect. Thank you for your cooperation”
As far as crowds go, this place can be hectic, and the parking can be down right ridiculous. The mall has everythng you would need as far as shops and eateries. The crowd tends to be on the younger side, dominated by teenagers. This is a great place for teens to enjoy a shopping experience or a trip to the movies and feel like they fit in.
