First settlements in the area were in the end of the 17th Century near the Hudson River. Naning Harmansen named the Town in 1707. The town was created as “Clifton” in 1828 from the Town of Halfmoon. It was the last town created in the county and changed its name to “Clifton Park” in 1829. The town originally consisted of farmland with a small village of homes, churches and businesses on what is now Rt. 9, but, when Interstate 87 was built through the town, the population and residential and commercial areas of the town skyrocketed.
Today it is a beautiful town, which is the home to many middle class and upper middle class residents. It houses a great mall, Clifton Park Center, and a huge center for shopping equipped with numerous plazas and a great upscale housing development surrounding this region. It currently is transforming into a more cultured town with the makeover of the Clifton Park Center and the additions of coffee houses, new restaurants, and top line clothing stores being added.
Clifton Park is also home to many great upscale apartment communities. Although the cost of living is a little on the expensive side, Clifton Park is very beautiful, classy, and extremely secure with a low crime rate every year. The school systems have also been considered to be top of the line. Clifton Park is a beautiful part of the Saratoga County region and is a few exits off the Northway from the city of Saratoga itself. It is also the home to many upscale local businesses and medical/legal practices.
Clifton Park is also the home to one of the areas most popular music venues, Northern Lights which has attracted numerous national artists as well as showcasing many local musicians as well.
