The town of Ballston was first settled in 1763 and became an official part of Albany County around 1775. It was originally called Ball’s Town or Ballton and wasn’t officially fromed until 1785. The original owners of the town were the Mcdonald brothers. A man named Eliphalet Ball bought the area of land from them and called it Ball’s Town. It stayed that way but over time it got shortened to Ballston. Baliston was named in honor of Rev. Eliphalet Ball
The Mourning kill rises and flows through Ballston and Malta then into the Kayaderosseras. The outlet of Ballston lake flows into Round lake. Gordon creek is a small tributary of the Kayaderosseras
Ballston Spa is the principal village in the town.
