Waterford

Waterford is a town in Saratoga County. The name of town is derived from its principal village. It is part of the Van Schiach patent of 1687 and the first settlement took place in the village, known back then as Half Moon Point. It was formed in 1816 by splitting the town of Halve Maan in half, one being Halfmoon and the other Waterford. The Town of Waterford contains a village, also called Waterford. The town and village are in the southeast corner of the county, north of the City of Troy.

Waterford is home to the Capital District’s annual Tugboat Festival every September. It is the home of the “Waterford Flight”; the highest set of lift locks in the world. The Town has a full-time Police Department; around 5 volunteer fire departments, a Rescue Squad and an Emergency Response Team.  It is served by two school districts, Waterford-Halfmoon being the primary district, and Shenendehowa in some parts.

Waterford is currently active in the improvement of its current historic buildings. Many local volunteer to run town events and festivals to keep the community actively involved and keep tradition alive. Although it lacks nightlife, Waterford provides a cozy setting in a historic town featuring a backdrop of beautiful waters.

There is currently no music scene active in Waterford and the town may benefit from focusing some attention on helping these young musicians develop a name for themselves.

Consider heading to Waterford for the annual tugboat festival. It draws nearly 30,000 locals across the Capital District annually and has many arts, crafts, food, and kids games. A great family outing that everyone young and old can enjoy. This is where Waterford truly shines and shows off its beauty!
