Waterford is a town in Saratoga County. The name of town is derived from its principal village. It is part of the Van Schiach patent of 1687 and the first settlement took place in the village, known back then as Half Moon Point. It was formed in 1816 by splitting the town of Halve Maan in half, one being Halfmoon and the other Waterford. The Town of Waterford contains a village, also called Waterford. The town and village are in the southeast corner of the county, north of the City of Troy.
Waterford is home to the Capital District’s annual Tugboat Festival every September. It is the home of the “Waterford Flight”; the highest set of lift locks in the world. The Town has a full-time Police Department; around 5 volunteer fire departments, a Rescue Squad and an Emergency Response Team. It is served by two school districts, Waterford-Halfmoon being the primary district, and Shenendehowa in some parts.
